Refurbished Cookie Sheet Becomes Mother's Day
Serving Tray!
Perfect for
Breakfast in Bed!
This
is a wonderful craft project for dads to do with
their kids. Dads will be ecstatic when they get
to go to the hardware store for this Mother’s
Day gift. Kids will learn how to refurbish and
reuse an existing item to keep it from the
landfill. Moms will be happy to receive such a
thoughtful, practical and inexpensive gift. The
total price tag for this Mother’s Day gift is
$5.36.
In
order to transform an old cookie sheet into a
beautiful serving tray, all you need is:
Sand
the tray until all grease is removed. This may
take as many as five or six sheets of sandpaper
and a good 30-40 minutes of sanding. Dads may
want to allow kids to take turns or do it in
stages to prevent tired little hands. In
addition, you may have to wash the dusting of
grease from the tray 2 or 3 times. It’s messy
so keep this project in a safe zone. Once you
have sanded the front and the back and washed it
clean, you may apply a coat of enamel paint.
The photographed tray has 4 coats of candy red
enamel paint. (The hardware store has wonderful
colors like Berry Pink, Purple and Bright
Green.)
*Begin
the project the weekend before Mother’s Day so
you can allow the tray to dry in between coats.
Also, you want it finished in time to serve
breakfast in bed.
Here’s
what dads need to buy so kids can make mom
breakfast in bed:
This breakfast is great because kids can do it
themselves by using the toaster to cook and then
piling the toppings high for a special treat.
Dad can make it even better by videotaping the
kids making breakfast. Don’t forget to turn the
camera off before waking mom up, if you want
this to be a good experience
