Inspiring Family Traditions...
Passing down those family favorites.
No
matter how many times your kids help you in the
kitchen, chances are they won't remember exactly
how much vanilla to put in your famous Chocolate
Chip Cookies or the special ingredient in your
Ravioli filling. And as your little bird
leaves the nest, she's probably more concerned
about tracking down all her DVDs than getting
copies of Mom's recipes.
But...
Without a doubt - the day will come when he or
she has a date to impress or a party to plan and
that tried-and-true favorite tucked away in
Mom's recipe box is the perfect go-to dish.
So frantic emails and phone calls ensue and the
family favorite is passed down via email and
preserved on standard white paper, probably in
ink that is half running out. Hardly the
presentation your family recipes deserves.
Since it is unlikely the next generation will
understand the heart behind a handwritten recipe
while they are tweeting, texting and mp3ing
their way through their early 20's, you can
start the tradition of handwritten family
favorites for them. A touching
off-to-college gift that you can start when your
kids are tots. Fill a recipe box
just for them with all their favorites in mom's
handwriting. Ask Grandma and other family
chefs to contribute too! Chances
are, your child will learn the true value of
mom's cooking while they are ramen noodling
their way through freshman year. And maybe
your thoughtful gift will inspire them to do the
same for their kids.
Use these fun recipes cards to start a
tradition
of recipe sharing.
